The opening ceremony marking the beginning of the 63rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival was held in front of the Church of St. Blaise in that southern Croatian coastal resort on Tuesday evening.
The festival runs until 25 August and its programme includes over 70 plays, concerts, and dancing and folklore performances at several venues in Dubrovnik, with over 2,000 participants from 23 countries.
In attendance at the opening ceremony were President Ivo Josipovic and other top Croatian officials and public figures.
The festival was formally opened by Dubrovnik Mayor Andro Vlahusic.
