Two jailed for 2009 fatal train derailment accident

Former Croatian Rail (HZ) executive Ivan Medak was sentenced by Split County Court on Friday to four years in prison for a July 2009 train derailment accident at Rudine, outside Split, in which six passengers were killed and 55 injured.

There are international airports in Zagreb, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik and Rijeka (on the island of Krk). Flights connect Zagreb to a number of European cities. Zagreb international airport is 17km (11mi) southeast of the city. Recently, Osijek airport in Slavonia has been renovated for regional traffic. It is also being considered to revitalize Pula airport (Istria) as a destination for low cost airlines. Airports also on the islands of Lošinj and Brač.
