Slovenia's GEN-I further lowers power prices in Croatia

Slovenian provider GEN-I said on Tuesday Croatian households and small businesses were showing a lot of interest in its power supply offer and, prompted by competitors' offers, announced that its prices would be lower not ten but 12.5 per cent than those by the Croatian state-owned power supplier HEP.

Environmentalists protest against coal-fired Plomin power plant

Several environmental groups organised a protest rally in the Istrian town of Plomin on Thursday and called on the government and the country's national electricity provider HEP to back down from its planned construction of a thermal power plant in that town which is to be powered by coal and in that way "avoid far-reaching repercussions". To bring the point home the environmentalists put up 680 black silhouettes representing how many people would die prematurely if the plant was built.

Gov't launches replacement of HEP CEO Koracevic

The government on Thursday forwarded a proposal to the supervisory board of the HEP national power provider to replace the current management board chairman, Zlatko Koracevic, and board members Rodoljub Lalic and Tomislav Seric and to appoint Seric as the successor to Koracevic, according to a press release issued by the government's public relations office after the cabinet's closed door meeting.

The state prosecutor, after one year of deliberation, once again filed an indictment against former prime minister and Croatian Democratic Union president Ivo Sanader on suspicion that, together with the former owner of the Dioki Group, Robert Jezic, in 2008 he incited the then CEO of the national electricity provider HEP, Ivan Mravak, to pay Jezic's companies a HRK 15 million loan and to sell them electricity for a price below the market value.
